Update on Charles Village Projects
Significant activities have been taking place in the 33 rd Street and St. Paul Street corridor. The following is a summary of the activities.
Charles Commons
Charles Commons is the recently completed Johns Hopkins University Bookstore and Student Housing project. Composed of two student housing buildings connected by a walkway/bridge, Charles Commons features 28,000 square feet of retail. Anchoring the retail
component of the project is the Barnes & Nobel Bookstore, serving JHU students, as well as the surrounding community. Charles Commons also provides 620 beds for student housing, student dining, meeting spaces, and specialty student use areas.
Village Lofts
Village Lofts is the name of the development being constructed at 3201 St. Paul Street by Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse. It contains 68 new residential units, over 12,000 SF of new retail and an 87 space parking garage. This retail component is slated to open in Fall 2006 and the condominiums will be delivered by January 2007.
The Olmsted
The building known as The Olmsted (formerly Village West) located on the west side of St. Paul Street between 32 nd Street and 33 rd Street is also being developed by Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse. The current program will offer 107 market rate condominium units, over 15,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space and a 525-space parking garage. The majority of parking (395 spaces) will be a public parking garage, owned and operated by the Baltimore Parking Authority. The added parking will greatly alleviate parking concerns in the neighborhood. Construction of the Olmsted began in Fall 2006; the parking garage is scheduled to open in Fall 2007 and the entire building to be delivered in Spring 2008.
